Site Preparation & Grading
Site Preparation and Grading in Bozeman
Site prep is the dig that everything else stands on. Canyoufeedthedog strips topsoil, moves cut and fill to the engineer’s grading plan, and shapes a raw lot into a level, draining pad that a foundation or slab can sit on. On growth lots past Baxter Lane in the 59718 ZIP, that means setting pad elevations and drainage slopes before a single footing is poured.
Why Grading Matters First
- Drainage. A pad graded to slope water away from the structure is the cheapest insurance against a wet crawl space or basement.
- Bearing. A compacted subgrade tested to 95 percent Proctor density gives the footings something solid to rest on so nothing settles later.
- Plan accuracy. We grade to the elevations on your plan, not to eyeball, using laser or GPS grade control on larger sites.
Our Process
We strip and stockpile topsoil, balance cut and fill across the lot, rough grade to shape, then finish grade to the plan elevations. Structural fill goes in controlled lifts and gets compacted and tested. On any site disturbing an acre or more we set silt fence and inlet protection to meet the stormwater SWPPP before dirt moves.
